There is an urban legend about couples, saying when one passes away, the other shortly follows. This has no scientific basis but is acceptable across cultures. While death may be a bizarre thing to talk about, this is part of life. This is why Daniel Hove always talks about this topic to his beloved pooch, Gunner.
Daniel dedicated his entire life to the service with the United States Air Force. Shortly after he retired from military work, the man volunteered as a firefighter. Daniel loves to serve other people that he often forgets about his medical needs.
This is why it became devastating when he got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2012. According to studies, only 10% of pancreatic cancer patients would survive for the next ten years. But while faced with this life-threatening disease, Daniel battled against it head-on. He engaged with several sessions of chemotherapy to kill the bad cancer cells.
In his journey with this disease as well as his other undertakings, his pooch Gunner was there all along. They were together all the time, like real best friends. With the chemotherapy leaving him immobile most of the time, Gunner helped him accomplish things. Additionally, the pooch never left his side during this time of great pain.
While Daniel engaged with chemotherapy sessions, his health seemed not to improve. In his makeshift hospital bed at home, Gunner slept beside him. Along with the deterioration of Daniel’s health, Gunner likewise became weak. There was a shared experience between the two that they rested in peace together.
The death of Daniel and Gunner was peaceful, according to Daniel’s daughter, Heather Nicoletti. Heather mentioned that the two died together, just like the real best friends they were. This saddened Heather, but this likewise gives her assurance that his dad and Gunner are now free of pain.
