One of every four Dachshunds typically acquires a spinal cord condition called intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) at some point in their lifetime. For this adorable pooch, she had it at six years old. But while it did change her life one way or another, never did it hamper her spirits nor her ability to play around all day.
It was in 2015 when Molly, the sausage dog, was diagnosed with the condition and had to undergo surgery. This has permanently damaged her hind legs, so she was bound to a wheelchair to keep her mobile. Nonetheless, the spirited pup didn’t consider herself the odd one out of the doggy pack, as she remained as bubbly as before.
However, living in Canada with her two fur siblings and her fur mom, Susan Freeman, can be quite a challenge for Molly. You see, her town typically experiences snowy winters, and using wheelchairs in the snow is not very comfortable and feasible at all.

Susan couldn’t take away Molly’s love for playing in the snow, so she knew she had to think of a way for the pooch to enjoy the winter in a different way. That is why on Molly’s first winter after the surgery, Susan decided to purchase a special chair for the pup, one that looks like a wheelchair but with skis.
The moment Molly tried it out, she was immediately drawn to her new gear. She happily skied her way across the snowy park with Susan cautiously trailing her. Over time, she eventually learned to navigate on her skis by herself, much to the amusement of her fur mom.
Now, at eleven years old, the pup is in love with winter more than ever. Whenever the cold season sets it, she would be the first one to ask their mom for a walk in the park, and Susan couldn’t be happier with this. Watch Molly rock her skis here.
